Florida’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis named Peter Penrod as chief of staff on Monday.
Before being named to his new post, Penrod had been part of Patronis’ team as general counsel.
“I am confident that with Peter Penrod as my chief of staff we will enhance our ability to serve our great state. His strong legal mind, solid track record of leadership along with his extensive background in public service makes Peter a natural fit to help lead the Department of Financial Services. It’s clear he is committed to making sure my office builds on our successes,” Patronis said on Monday.
Penrod’s new duties start immediately.
In his role as general counsel for the Department of Financial Services, Penrod oversaw the Divisions of Risk Management and Rehabilitation and Liquidation and providing both legal counsel and representation for CFO Patronis. Before that, he was general counsel for the Department of Economic Opportunity. Penrod also serves on the Florida Judicial Nominating Commission for the First Appellate District.
After eight years in the Florida House and serving on the state Public Service Commission (PSC), Patronis was named to his current post in the summer of 2017 by then Gov. Rick Scott after Jeff Atwater resigned the position to take a job at Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Back in November 2018, Patronis beat former state Sen. Jeremy Ring to win a term in his own right.
