Two members of the Florida delegation threw their support behind former Vice President Joe Biden’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination this week.
On Tuesday, U.S. Reps. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., and U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., backed Biden. They had been supporting U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., but she ended her campaign last month. They were also joined by two other members of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) in backing Biden as U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop, D-Ga., and U.S. Rep. Donald Payne, D-NJ, also endorsed him.
“This election is about the future of our country and making sure that our children inherit a country that works for all of us,” Wilson said. “Our candidate needs to have the strength to beat Donald Trump and the heart to bring this country together, for the sake of our children. That is why I’m proud to endorse Joe Biden for president of the United States, a leader that I know will put our families and children first.”
“Joe Biden has the experience, vision, and heart to reunify our country after four years of Donald Trump. I’ve known Joe for years. I know that he is ready to take on the job as commander-in-chief on day one,” said Hastings.
Biden leads the Democratic field in the early polls of the Florida primary which takes place on March 17.
