Vice President Joe Biden kicked off his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination this week and he reeled in the support of a leading Democrat from the Sunshine State.
Former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla., who lost last year’s Democratic gubernatorial primary by a narrow margin to then Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, announced she was backing Biden, insisting he was best positioned to defeat President Donald Trump in 2020.
“I have many friends who are running for president this cycle. I think they would all serve our country very well,” Graham insisted before adding that she thought Biden had the best chance to take down Trump.
“My number one criteria is winning,” Graham maintained. “We have to have a nominee that can beat Donald Trump in November 2020. I believe that Vice President Biden is the one who can keep Trump from having another term.”
Graham also claimed Biden could carry Florida which Trump carried in 2016.
“In the purple state that is Florida, I believe that Vice President Biden has the best chance of winning Florida in November,” Graham insisted. “And, with Florida in your column, your path to the presidency is much easier.”
The daughter of former Gov. and U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla., Gwen Graham served a single term in Congress after upsetting U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla.
