Mainstream Media Blaming Trump’s Rhetoric for Second Assassination Attempt

This week, the Media Research Center (MRC) gathered news reports from the “Mainstream Media” where blame was put on former President Donald Trump and his campaign rhetoric for the reason a second assassination attempt on his life.

Below are examples of the biased coverage documented by the MRC:

NBC and ABC tied the second Trump assassination attempt to ‘rhetoric’ and ‘dogs and cats.’

NBC Anchor Lester Holt directly tied the failed shooting attempt to Springfield.

“Today’s apparent assassination attempt comes amid increasingly fierce rhetoric on the campaign trail itself,” Holt said. “Mr. Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, continue to make baseless claims about Haitian immigrants in Ohio. This weekend, there were new bomb threats in that town.”

MSNBC blamed Trump, his supporters, and the ‘Trump Era’ for “extremist rhetoric” that led to Trump getting shot at.

NBC’s Vaughn Hillyard tied the two Trump assassination attempts to Trump supporters breaching the U.S. Capitol Building on January 6th, 2021.

CNN‘s Juliette Kayyem laments the second Trump assassination attempt “could have impacted voters” and “will be used for political purposes” and that’s “exceptionally unfortunate.”

Curtis Houck of NewsBusters compiled news coverage.

MSNBC anchor Alex Witt and Obama admin official now-analyst Elise Jordan blame Trump, Trump’s supporters, and the Trump Era for the “extremism” in rhetoric that led to Trump getting shot at,” said Houck.

“This heated rhetoric can only go so far before, unfortunately, it, you know, it has led to violence on both sides of the aisle and so I think it’s just something that Democrats and Republicans have to be very cognizant about,” the MSNBC commentators said. “What can we all do to take the temperature down?”

When it came to political rhetoric, MSNBC’s Witt said, “Do you expect there to be calls from within the Trump campaign to do that? Do you expect to hear anything from the Trump campaign about toning down the rhetoric? Toning down the violence? Or would that be atypical of the former president?”
