This week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., released a report on his accomplishments in 2023.
“This was a year of economic hardship and social turmoil. It’s far from the first time Americans have seen such upheaval, but familiar doesn’t mean easy,” Rubio said.
“As Floridians grapple with our nation’s future, it’s important that Congress continue to do its work on their behalf. That’s why, no matter how crazy the world gets, my staff and I remain committed to public service,” Rubio added.
Rubio’s office showcased the senator’s efforts to help constituents.
“Senator Rubio’s award-winning federal casework team closed over 22,000 new cases. The case subjects ranged from Social Security and Medicare to veterans benefits and passport services,” Rubio’s office noted.
Rubio’s office also insisted that the senator “continued to get things done for the country and for Florida, passing bills to expand care for veterans’ families, strengthen our space program, protect international ports from terrorists, and more.”
Rubio burst onto the national political scene in 2010 when he caught then Gov. Charlie Crist in the Republican primary for an open Senate seat. After driving Crist out of the GOP to continue his Senate bid with no party affiliation, Rubio defeated him and then U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, D-Fla., to win the seat. Rubio ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016 but was trounced by Donald Trump, including in the Florida primary. Later in 2016, Rubio bounced back, running over businessman Carlos Beruff in the GOP primary and solidly defeating then U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., in the general election. In 2022, Rubio won a third term, impressively defeating then U.S. Rep. Val Demings, D-Fla.
