Chinese-owned company ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, has one year to sell TikTok to a U.S. company if it hopes to avoid an outright ban. The news follows President Joe Biden signed a bi-partisan legislation package that included the requirement for ByteDance’s sale.
In response to the bill’s signature, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio shared his thoughts on the mandate for the owner of one ofthe world’s most popular video content-sharing networks.
“TikTok extended the Chinese Communist Party’s power and influence into our own nation, right under our noses. I have been raising concerns about TikTok since 2019, so this new law forcing ByteDance to divest from TikTok is a huge step toward confronting Beijing’s malign influence. It’s official: Communist China is on the clock.”
