This week, U.S. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., applauded the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for sending an Emergency Solutions Grants–Disaster Recover to Collier County.
HUD will send $861,716 to HUD. “This authority was given to HUD through the 2020 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Bill,” Diaz-Balart’s office noted.
Diaz-Balart, the top Republican on the U.S. House Transportation and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Subcommittee, said the funds will help the county recover from Hurricane Ian.
“I am thrilled that HUD is allocating $861,716 in HUD Emergency Solutions Grants–Disaster Recovery (ESG-DR) to support homeless providers in Collier County as our community continues to recover from Hurricane Ian,’ Diaz-Balart said.
“In 2020, I fought for and supported granting HUD the additional authority to make available Homeless Assistance Grants for ESG-DR, to ensure states and localities have the resources they need following a natural disaster. This marks the first time that HUD is using this additional authority to offer such funds. This grant will significantly benefit individuals and families in Collier County whose needs may not be fully met by FEMA or other Federal disaster relief programs,” he added. “I look forward to the positive impact this grant will have on our community, and I will ensure FL-25 continues to have and obtain adequate resources for hurricane mitigation and recovery.”
