There has been significant debate about the U.S. education system recently. The Trump administration wants to eliminate the Federal Department of Education, while Democrats prefer to keep it as is.
A study by WalletHub compared all 50 states using 18 metrics related to education quality, including educational attainment, school performance, and achievement gaps between genders and races. Some states provide better education than others.
The Top 10 states were:
1 Massachusetts
2 Maryland
3 Vermont
4 Colorado
5 Connecticut
6 Virginia
7 New Jersey
8 New Hampshire
9 Washington
10 Minnesota
Florida’s ranking came in at number 20.
The worst states on education overall were:
40 Indiana
41 Texas
42 New Mexico
43 Alabama
44 Kentucky
45 Nevada
46 Oklahoma
47 Arkansas
48 Louisiana
49 Mississippi
50 West Virginia
“There’s a strong correlation between being more educated and receiving higher compensation. The most educated states provide high-quality educational experiences from elementary school all the way to graduate programs, which helps parents raise children in an environment that gives them as many opportunities as possible. The top states also provide equitable schooling conditions, with low racial and gender gaps in educational attainment,” said Chip Lupo, WalletHub Analyst.
Data used to create this ranking were collected from the U.S. Census Bureau, National Center for Education Statistics, U.S. News & World Report, Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health, National Summer Learning Association, The Campaign for Free College Tuition, Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, U.S. Department of Education, The College Board, EdChoice and WalletHub research.
