Florida’s population has surged to over 23.3 million this year, placing it third in the nation behind California and Texas, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The state saw an increase of 467,347 people from the previous year, second only to Texas’s gain of 562,941.
Florida’s growth rate of 2% is the highest among states, following the District of Columbia’s 2.2%. The overall U.S. population rose by 1% to approximately 340.11 million. Key factors driving Florida’s growth include significant international migration, which contributed 411,322 residents, and regional population increases in the South, which gained nearly 1.8 million people.
Despite this growth, Florida is among 17 states experiencing more deaths than births, leading to a net “natural decrease” of 7,321 residents. Looking ahead, Florida is projected to add roughly 319,109 new residents between April 2024 and April 2028, comparable to adding a population slightly smaller than Orlando each year.
