This Wednesday, the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS) will host a “Fixing Problems for Floridians Fair” in Orlando, at the Hilton Altamonte Springs.

The event is open to the public, and various DFS experts will be there to assist attendees and educate them on available resources. Florida’s Insurance Consumer Advocate, Tasha Carter, will also be on hand to help insurance policyholders who are dealing with a challenging claims process. Insurance consumers can learn more about ways to reduce their premiums through the My Safe Florida Home program, and Workers’ Compensation professionals will be there to help small businesses navigate any issues they may have. The Department will also have an Unclaimed Property Portal available to assist Floridians in collecting any unclaimed cash they are entitled to.

July is Freedom Month

State officials are reminding Florida about the current sales tax holiday through July 31th.

During this sales tax holiday period, tax is not due on the retail sale of admissions to music events,sporting events, cultural events, specified performances, movies, museums, state parks, and fitness facilities.

Also exempt from sales tax during this holiday period are electric scooters, eligible boating and water activity supplies, camping supplies, fishing supplies, general outdoor supplies, and residential pool supplies.

This sales tax holiday does not apply to:

• Rentals of any eligible items

• Sales within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport
