This week, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services Nikki Fried announced the launch of a new initiative to connect veterans with nutrition resources.
The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ (FDACS) Veteran Nutrition and Wellness Awareness Initiative focuses on educating veterans and their families on the nutrition and wellness resources available to them at the state and federal levels, as well as raising awareness about the unique nutritional challenges facing the veterans community.
“No veteran should face food insecurity after serving our country. Unfortunately, that’s too often the case as veterans contend with unhealthy dietary habits established during their service and challenges from military-related health conditions,” said Fried.
“The establishment of the FDACS’ Veteran Nutrition and Wellness Awareness Initiative will help educate veterans and their families about the range of nutritional resources and programs available to them. Our veterans have made great sacrifices to protect our country, and their access to healthy, nutritious food should never be in question,” she added.
