Over 80 Percent of Democrats Support Keeping Trumps Name off the 2024 Ballot

A new CBS News/YouGov poll shows that 81 percent of Democrats believe former U.S. President Donald Trump should be disqualified and his name should be removed from presidential ballots.

All of this follows the move by states like Maine and Colorado to removing the former president’s name from its primary ballot for this year.

Independents were nearly divided, with 44 percent agreeing with Democrats supporting the removal of Trump’s name, but 56 percent believe Trump’s name should remain on the ballots. 90 percent of Republicans think states should keep Trump’s name on the ballot.

The Trump campaign is confronting several lawsuits of groups trying to keep his name off the ballot in 13 states, with some of those in battleground states like Nevada and Wisconsin.

Some of the more liberal states argue Trump’s name should be removed from the ballot based on the allegations that he led supporters to participate in an “insurrection” on January 6, 2021. The U.S. Supreme Court r is set to hear oral arguments in the case on February 8.

The same poll that was taken a few days before the third anniversary of the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot, found more inside the GOP approving the actions of those that rioted compared to three years ago.

In January 2021, only 21 percent of Republicans said the actions by rioters were justified. Today, that number increased to 30 percent.

Around (51%) believe losses in future presidential elections losses will be accepted peacefully, with (49%) believing violence will increase if the election doesn’t go their way.

Democrats have announced they will use “democracy” as an issue against Republicans in this year’s election.

70 percent of respondents in the poll felt democracy is threatened, with 30 saying it is secure.

The poll was conducted between January 3 and 5 among 2,157 adults in the U.S. and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
