As President Joe Biden and his administration continue to point to various economic indicators and insist the nation’s economy is rebounding, recently released poll data revealed that over 75% of Americans are still seeing inflation impact their grocery store’s prices.
“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 79% of American Adults say they’re paying more for groceries now than they were a year ago, down from 85% in February 2023,” Rasmussen said. “Just 15% now say they aren’t paying more for groceries. Sixty percent (60%) say rising food prices have caused them to change their eating habits – up from 57% in February 2023 – while 35% have not changed the way they eat because of inflation.”
Other notable stats from the poll:
- 51% expect that the amount they spend on groceries a year from now will be higher. 11% think they’ll be paying less for groceries in a year.
- 23% expect their grocery bill to remain about the same.
- 16% are not sure.
The survey of 1,271 American Adults was conducted April 8-10, 2024 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC.
