A South Florida Democrat known as one of the most blunt speakers in Congress recently criticized his party’s flawed strategies.
“Democrats have to, like, get one thing straight, we need to win,” said Rep. Jared Moskowitz.
The South Florida Democrat told Shannon Bream on Fox News that progressive Democrats will win in swing districts, which are needed if Democrats hope to regain the U.S. House in 2026.
“You have been taking some heat from the more progressive wing of your party, and you, like many of your party, are caught in the middle between the old and the new guard, the progressive wings. Do you feel the party has coalesced about who’s leading it and how you move forward? Bream asked the Congressman.
“I’m a moderate, I’m not progressive. We need to win. This purity thing that we want to go through, that’s great if we want to continue to be in the minority. But if we want to win, we got to put people in seats that can win those seats,” replied Moskowitz.
Over the past few months, two separate polls from CNN and NBC have shown Democrats’ low approval ratings hovering around 27-29%.
“We got Democrats in Trump seats, you can’t run progressives there,” said the Congressman.
Republicans think they have a chance to beat Moskowitz in the 2026 midterms. The GOP points out that the last two races Moskowitz won were much closer than the analyst predicted. Some pundits have suggested that Moskowitz may run for Florida Governor, and Moskowitz told Politico that he hasn’t ruled out that option.
The 23rd Congressional district he represents, which extends from Fort Lauderdale to the south end of Palm Beach County, has shown signs of leaning more red in recent elections.
Just recently, Americans for Prosperity held a rally in the Congressman’s 23rd congressional district to encourage him to vote to extend the Trump tax cuts.
Though Moskowitz tells Fox News he’s more of a moderate, the conservative Heritage Foundation congressional scorecard says his rating is 6%.
But the far left wing group Progressive Punch gives the Congressman a D on liberal issues.
