The University of Miami (UM) has the lowest acceptance rate among Florida colleges for the second consecutive year, according to an analysis by The Business Journals using U.S. Department of Education (DOE) data for fiscal year 2024.
This analysis focused on schools with at least 3,000 applications from fall 2023 to spring 2024, with 30 Florida colleges included. The rankings were based on acceptance and matriculation rates. The University of Miami had an acceptance rate of 18.5%, ranking No. 1 in the state and No. 5 nationally, with a matriculation rate of 26%.
The University of Florida had the highest combined ranking, admitting 24% of applicants and achieving a matriculation rate of 43.1%. The overall top five in Florida were:
- No. 2 Florida State University
- No. 3 University of Central Florida
- No. 4 Florida A&M University (FAMU), which had a 21.1% acceptance rate, the second-lowest in the state.
In South Florida, the University of Miami is the top school, followed by Florida International University, which ranked No. 6 in the state, with a 58.8% acceptance rate and a 35.1% matriculation rate.
