UPDATE: Earlier today, Universal confirmed the opening date as May 22, 2025.
According to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, sources tied to Universal Orlando Resort are predicting that Universal’s new theme park, Epic Universe, will open by Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-26) 2025.
Universal has yet to confirm an initial launch date, but the rumored timeline is reportedly “earlier than expected.” Previously, Universal had stated that the park would open sometime in “summer 2025,” but later adjusted their language to simply “2025.”
Since Universal Studios’ Grand Opening in 1990, Universal has added $73 billion to Florida’s economy. Currently, Universal employs more than 25,000 people and expects to add another 14,000 jobs with the new park.
“Our new park represents the single-largest investment Comcast NBCUniversal has made in its theme park business and in Florida overall,” said Brian Roberts, the chairman and CEO of Comcast Corporation. “It reflects the tremendous excitement we have for the future of our theme park business and for our entire company’s future in Florida.”
Epic Universe is being built on a multi-hundred-acre plot of land northeast of the Orange County Convention Center, approximately four miles from Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. Rides and attractions at the park include a section titled “Dark Universe”, which will feature rides, restaurants and shops themed around Universal’s “Classic Monsters”, such as Frankenstein, the Mummy and the Wolfman. Epic Universe will also feature Nintendo Land, which will include a Mario Kart race court and a Donkey Kong-themed roller coaster. It will also feature Harry Potter’s “Ministry of Magic”, and a section called “Dragon: Isle of Berk”, based on the movie, “How to Tame Your Dragon.”
