A new poll from Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Mainstreet PolCom Lab shows Gov. Ron DeSantis retains the support of a majority of Florida voters even as he runs for the Republican presidential nomination.
The poll shows DeSantis has the approval of 54 percent of those surveyed, while 43 percent disapprove of him and 3 percent are not sure. DeSantis garners strong approval or disapproval, with 41 percent strongly approving of him while 34 percent strongly disapprove of the governor.
The poll finds a slight gender gap, as 58.9 percent of men and 49.6 percent of women approve of DeSantis. The governor also does better with older Floridians than younger ones.
A strong majority of whites–58.5 percent–approve of DeSantis, while 39.8 percent of them disapprove of him. A slight majority of Hispanics–51.5 percent–approve of the governor, while 43.5 percent disapprove of him. Only 20.8 percent of black Floridians approve of DeSantis, while 71.5 percent of them disapprove of him.
Asked, “in the ongoing dispute between Governor Ron DeSantis and Disney, which side do you support more,” the governor has a slight edge, with 47 percent closer to his side and 42 percent closer to Disney’s side.
The poll of 933 Florida voters was taken from June 27 through July 1 and had a margin of error of +/- 3.2 percent.
