Ron DeSantis’ Odds of Winning a Second Term Improve

On Tuesday, betting aggregators US-Bookies.com improved Gov. Ron DeSantis’ chances to win a second term.

DeSantis’ odds to win the 2022 Florida gubernatorial election improved from 2/9 (81.8 percent implied probability) to 1/5 (83.3 percent) since November, according to US-Bookies.com.

During the same time, U.S. Rep. Charlie Crist’s, D-Fla., odds worsened from 9/1 (10 percent) to 10/1 (9.1 percent), and state Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried’s worsened from 17/2 (10.5 percent) to 12/1 (7.7 percent). State Sen. Annette Taddeo, D-Fla., saw her odds boosted from 100/1 in November to 25/1.

DeSantis also improved in presidential betting markets. His odds to be the Republican nominee in the 2024 U.S. presidential election improved from 5/1 (16.7 percent implied probability) to 9/2 (18.2 percent) since October. His odds to win the 2024 election improved from 8/1 (11.1 percent) to 7/1 (12.5 percent).

Despite DeSantis’ recent positive movements, he still trails former President Donald Trump in both presidential betting markets. Trump is the 3/1 favorite to win the 2024 election (25 percent implied probability), followed by President Joe Biden at 9/2 (18.2 percent). DeSantis is tied with Vice President Kamala Harris at 7/1 (12.5 percent). Trump is also the 6/5 favorite to win the Republican Nomination (45.5 percent).

“DeSantis’ political outlook looks strong, as his odds for two major elections are trending in the right direction despite news suggesting a falling out with Trump,” said a US-Bookies.com spokesperson. “Given his strong position in both markets, the Florida governor will have a difficult choice to make regarding which position to focus on.”
