This week, Morning Consult released polls looking at every governor in the nation and Gov. Ron DeSantis remains in good shape in the Sunshine State even as he draws more fire during his presidential campaign.
While a majority of those surveyed–54 percent–approved of DeSantis during the second quarter of 2023 that’s down slightly from 56 percent in the first quarter of the year. Morning Consult maintained this was the result of the Republican presidential primaries. Currently, DeSantis is seen as the main GOP primary opponent for former President Donald Trump who continues to maintain a solid lead over the pack.
“DeSantis — who launched his presidential campaign in late May — saw his home-state approval rating fall slightly between the first and second quarters of 2023. While the majority of Florida voters (54 percent) still approve of his job performance, the share who disapprove increased from 38 percent to 42 percent, driven in part by a slight decline in sentiment among Republicans in his state,” Morning Consult noted.
In the first quarter of 2023, 91 percent of Florida Republicans approved of DeSantis while 7 percent of them disapproved of him. In the second quarter, 87 percent of Florida Republicans approved of DeSantis while 11 percent disapproved of him.
“Surveys conducted quarterly in 2023 among at least 20,953 registered voters in Florida…with unweighted margins of error of up to +/-5 percentage points,” Morning Consult noted.
