Ron DeSantis Still Top Pick by Republicans for Trump’s Vice President Pick

On multiple occasions, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis emphasized that he has no interest in the role of Vice President for a potential second term of Donald Trump, but a new poll finds that 41% of Republicans and 40% of Independents who lean Republican support Gov. DeSantis as being Trump’s VP pick for 2024.

The Economist/YouGov poll also found that 27% of the same crowd support Florida U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio as the VP pick.

Other topics the voters were polled about.:

2024 Presidential Election:

Neither candidate came close to 50 percent, and the result is a tie, with Trump and Biden both at 42% and the remaining undecided or considering a third-party candidate.

Trump’s Hush Money Trial Conviction: Those numbers have barely changed, with 51% of Americans, including 89% of Democrats and 12% of Republicans, strongly or somewhat approving of the guilty verdict in Trump’s hush-money trial.

Rigged Trial: 49% said they do not believe Trump’s hush money trial was rigged, while 38% believe it was.

Immigration is a bigger topic among Republican voters than inflation.

  • 34% said immigration was their number one issue.
  • 24% said inflation cost.

Closing The Border:

56% of voters said yes if illegal entries exceeded more than 2,500 per day. The poll found some support for a compromise between both parties on the issue but not by much. 36% said they should find a bipartisan solution, and 33% opposed it. Fourty-five percent of Biden supporters supported a compromise, with 35% of Trump supporters favoring one as well.

Economy:

  • 54% think the economy is getting worse.
  • 29% of Americans think the number of jobs in the country is decreasing.
  • 39% think the U.S. economy is shrinking.
  • 85% of Trump supporters believe the economy is getting worse and 71% say their family’s economic situation is worse than a year ago.
