The award will be presented on April 3, 2024, at the JW Marriott Marquis in Miami, where distinguished members of the legal profession will gather to celebrate Book and other esteemed honorees receiving Lifetime Achievement Awards for their exceptional service. This year’s honorees also include Alan T. Dimond (Greenberg Traurig), Judge Ronald C. Dresnick (Kluger Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen & Levine), Lena Hopkins (Community Legal Services), and Stanley B. Price (Bilzin Sumberg), each recognized for their outstanding contributions to the legal community.
With a career spanning over four decades, Book has been a driving force behind legislative reforms that have reshaped Florida’s social and legal landscape. As the founder of Ronald L. Book, P.A., he has not only championed corporate interests but has also devoted hundreds of thousands of pro bono hours to causes ranging from homelessness prevention to child abuse advocacy.
As Chairman of the Miami-Dade Homeless Trust for over 30 years, Book oversees a $103 million budget, implementing one of the nation’s most effective homelessness reduction programs, bringing the unsheltered and unhoused homeless population in Miami-Dade from over 8,000 in 1993 to 858 today based on the latest count (January 2025). His work has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a national best-practice model.
Additionally, Book’s advocacy was instrumental in the passage of Miami-Dade’s Homeless and Domestic Violence Tax, the only food and beverage tax of its kind in the country, which funds essential services for underserved populations. His hands-on leadership was evident during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the post Champlain Towers South collapse, where he worked tirelessly to provide shelter, medical care, and resources to those in need.
Beyond his legislative impact, Book’s most personal and powerful advocacy stems from his work with Lauren’s Kids, the nonprofit he co-founded with his daughter, Senator Lauren Book, after she survived child sexual abuse. As Chairman and General Counsel to the Foundation, Book has spearheaded over 35 legislative changes that protect survivors and prevent child abuse. The organization’s Safer, Smarter Schools curriculum is now used in over 100,000 classrooms across 43 states, making it a national model for prevention education.
Book’s unparalleled commitment to justice, public service, and legislative excellence has left an indelible mark on Florida’s legal and advocacy landscape.
