Some Florida Bills Aren’t Moving Forward This Year

When lawmakers meet every year for is state session, Floridians will read and hear about bills that have never been discussed or been pushed to become law. Some ideas gain momentum and make it, and often others don’t.

Here is a list of the bill proposals that have died this year.

Abortion.

Republican Rep. David Borrero wanted to ban abortions in most cases. His bill would have done away with the exceptions of rape or incest. Instead, it would have only allowed an abortion to save the life of the mother. If an abortion took place, under law, it would have been a third-degree felony punishable with 10 years in jail and/or a $100,000 fine.

Race and Slavery

Popular Republican State Sen. Blaise Ingoglia, had has success on bills dealing with illegal immigration and the cost that Florida taxpayers must absorb.

This year he wanted to see the “Kamala Harris Truth in Slavery Teaching Act.” The Senator said he wanted history curriculums to focus on slavery where it would teach “which political parties supported slavery by adopting pro-slavery tenets to their party platform.”

Ingoglia points out that conservatives are always attacked by the left of wanting to go back to Jim Crow era because they oppose affirmative action, CRT and DEI programs in the Florida.

The Senator said he wanted the whole story taught of how the Democrats were the party that promoted slavery during the civil war and continued on with Jim Crow going into the 1960s.

Voting Systems

A few bills died this year that would have barred elections offices from using foreign-owned voting machines.
