U.S. Rep. Jared Moskowitz, (D-FL), used social media to critique an official statement by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
@NYCMayor He basically said “The Jews that died, sad, but it’s their fault.” He needs the city’s antisemitism policy for himself. Just an atrocious statement

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani drew sharp criticism from Jewish organizations and Democratic lawmakers on Oct. 7, 2026, after issuing a statement commemorating the third anniversary of Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel.
The controversy centered on his decision to condemn Israel’s military actions in Gaza in a statement intended to mark the anniversary of the Oct. 7, 2023, massacre.
What Mamdani said
Mamdani began by acknowledging the Hamas attack, which killed approximately 1,200 people and resulted in the abduction of 251 hostages.
He described the attack as involving “horrific war crimes” and expressed sympathy for those mourning.
However, he then pivoted to Israel’s military response, stating:
“The suffering did not begin nor end that day.”
He accused Israel of conducting a “devastating, ongoing genocide in Gaza” and killing more than 74,000 Palestinians.
He also condemned what he characterized as Israeli occupation, apartheid and American complicity through military assistance.
