St. Johns County business owner Clay Murphy said it was time for a change and decided to throw his hat into the Republican Primary Election for St. John’s County Commission District 3.
Murphy is the owner of Sonny’s BBQ in St. Augustine. He also has a law enforcement background that spans 30-years career in several counties in Northeast Florida.
Murphy was at the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Highway Patrol and St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (Reserve Deputy).
Murphy has picked up key GOP endorsements from the St. John County Republican Party (REC), the Republican Liberty Caucus and the Nocatee Conservative Club.

Murphy tells voters he’s man of faith, family and community. His volunteer service includes the Alpha-Omega Miracle Home for women and children, Flagler College Saints Club, his HOA and others.
At a recent forum, Murphy told voters his top campaign priorities are:
- Stopping overdevelopment and making growth pay for itself.
Prioritizing traffic and transportation solutions.
Crime prevention. - Promoting community safety.
- Lowering taxes.
- Diversifying the local economy.
- Preserving rural areas and natural resources.
- Improving parks
“As your next county commissioner, I’ll fight even harder to slow the growth and preserve the high quality of life that St. Johns County deserves,” Murphy said.
