Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis says Democrats need to wake up to possible fraud against Floridians when signing up for healthcare.
Patronis sent a letter to U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders and other officials who oversee the U.S. Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), which covers the Affordable Health Care Act (ACA, or “Obamacare“), warning them about the possible fraud that could occur against Floridians.
“Thanks to the weak security measures of the Marketplace, Floridians are being signed up for health policies in different states, then getting penalized by the IRS because they made too much to qualify for plans. This fraud can only occur through a Marketplace that’s got more holes in it than a cheap slice of Swiss cheese. We need Congress to force CMS to act with urgency in getting this problem taken care of,” said the CFO.
Patronis is also travelling through the state highlighting the potential dangers of Floridians being scammed from rooftop solar panels. State officials have made this a top priority seeing this as one of the fastest scams hitting Florida consumers.
“As I explained in the piece, these solar panels can cause a variety of issues and can become a financial liability. It is a depreciating item that now homeowners will have to pay off, if they want to downsize, scale back, or move into a retirement community. Solar power technology is popular, but homeowners need to be made aware of the potential downfalls,” said Patronis.
