Survey Reveals Top Fears, Dreams of Taxpayers

With tax season in full swing, financial services website WalletHub conducted a poll how U.S taxpayers felt about the current tax structure.

91% of Americans think filing taxes should be free. 7 in 10 Americans are more worried about inflation than taxes right now.

35% of people fear not having enough money to pay on Tax Day, while 22% worry about making a mathematical mistake, and 20% are concerned about identity theft.

Nearly half of Americans need a tax refund to make ends meet.

TAX RATE ENVY

Nearly 2 in 3 people describe companies that advertise free tax filing services as bait-and-switch schemes.

Sixty-six percent of Americans think their current tax rate is too high, while 31% say just right, and Just Right-31%, and 3% say they’re too low.

More than 1 in 4 Americans know someone who has cheated on their taxes.

Seventy-Seven percent of people believe that the rich don’t pay their fair share in taxes.

Nearly 7 in 10 Americans believe that businesses don’t pay their fair share in taxes.
