Teacher Union Group Advising Teachers How to Combat the Trump Administration

A recent webinar hosted by the National Education Association (NEA) gathered teachers around the country, “preparing” them for what may happen in a second Trump term and offering ways to combat it.

The meeting kicked off with a transgender individual leading a “land acknowledgment.” This individual accused the United States of “settler colonialism” and accused Trump of wanting to carry through with “land grabs.”

One of the top items brought by the NEA was to support students who are illegal immigrants against the Trump administration. One of the NEA reps said there was a role for teachers to push back and said there is a role for teachers to play to make students feel less afraid of immigration enforcement.

Another speaker brought up by the NEA said that teaching “social and racial justice” is teaching “true history.”

Other speakers at the webinar branded parental rights organizations who support things like school choice as “extremist groups.

A member of the American Civil Liberties Union spoke and identified herself as the “chair of the NEA sexual orientation and gender identity committee.

Other speakers encouraged teachers to get out and campaign for a flurry of issues like flying the rainbow pride flag in classrooms. Discuss topics such as abortion, “immigrants’ rights,” “racial justice,” “transgender rights,” and “voting rights.”

From this webinar, the teacher union came across advocating for teachers not to abide by school policies that may be contradictory to the liberal views of the NEA.

One teacher said, “I’m here to tell you the pride flag’s going to be in my classroom. I don’t care what anyone says. The pride flag’s going to be there. So is the trans flag. So is the Black Lives Matter flag. They’re going to be in my room.”
