Opened on April 22, 1998, as the fourth theme park in the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s Animal Kingdom was envisioned as a park celebrating both the diversity and conservation of the animal kingdom. Inspired by Walt Disney’s passion for wildlife, the park aimed to provide guests with immersive experiences that combined entertainment with education.
In its early years, Animal Kingdom featured attractions such as the Kilimanjaro Safaris, Expedition Everest, and the beloved Festival of the Lion King show, which showcased the park’s commitment to storytelling and adventure. However, it wasn’t until 2017 that Animal Kingdom underwent its most significant expansion with the addition of Pandora – The World of Avatar.
Based on James Cameron’s blockbuster film Avatar, Pandora introduced guests to the lush and otherworldly landscape of the fictional moon of Pandora. The centerpiece attraction, Avatar Flight of Passage, allowed visitors to soar through the skies aboard a Banshee, offering a breathtaking and immersive experience unlike any other.
Alongside Flight of Passage, the land also features the Na’vi River Journey, an enchanting boat ride through bioluminescent forests, and various immersive environments that transport guests to the visually stunning world of Pandora. The addition of Pandora solidified Animal Kingdom’s status as a premier destination for both animal conservation and cutting-edge theme park experiences, further cementing its legacy in the realm of themed entertainment.
