Trailers to be Donated to Floridians Impacted by North Florida Tornadoes

Below is a statement from the Florida Division of Emergency Management:

TALLAHASSEE, FL – The Florida Division of Emergency Management (Division) announced the donation of up to 50 travel trailers through the Florida Disaster Foundation to residents of Northwest Florida who were impacted by severe weather and tornadoes earlier this week. The Florida Disaster Foundation was created by the Legislature in 2022, and this is the first recovery act of the foundation to date. One of the purposes of the foundation is to directly contribute to the immediate recovery of communities impacted by disasters and provide needed support where federal assistance stops.

“At the direction of Governor Ron DeSantis, we are donating travel trailers to eligible Floridians that lost their homes during these storms” said Division Executive Director Kevin Guthrie. “Florida is committed to assisting all communities post disaster, and thanks to the establishment of this direct support organization by the Legislature, we will be able to respond and recover faster than ever before.”

The donated trailers will serve as temporary housing for residents who lost their homes in the storm. Individuals that are eligible for a donated trailer will be contacted directly by the Division’s individual assistance team.

During the Legislative Special Session 2022A, the Florida Legislature established the Florida Emergency Management Assistance Foundation (Florida Disaster Foundation) as a direct-support organization of the Florida Division of Emergency Management to provide assistance, funding, and support in disaster response, recovery, and relief efforts for natural emergencies. The Florida Disaster Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Individuals and organizations can donate by visiting FloridaDisasterFoundation.org/Donate or by mailing a check to: Florida Disaster Foundation, 2555 Shumard Oak Boulevard, Tallahassee, FL 32399.
