President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Central Florida personal injury attorney Dan Newlin as his ambassador to Colombia, announcing it on Truth Social. He praised Newlin as a “powerful advocate for U.S. interests” and a champion for strengthening ties globally.
Newlin expressed his excitement, stating that being nominated is “the greatest honor of my life.” He views this role as an extension of his long history of public service, including his work as a deputy sheriff and EMT firefighter. He believes his community involvement will help him excel as ambassador and is committed to supporting the president’s agenda.
Newlin will undergo Senate hearings for confirmation. He emphasized the significant responsibility of representing the U.S. and is proud of the opportunity. Before starting his own law practice, Newlin worked with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and actively supported Trump’s campaign.
Republican Senator Rick Scott endorsed his nomination, stating Florida is crucial to Latin America. Newlin plans to maintain connections with his law firm, which has 100 lawyers and over 500 staff members. He affirmed his commitment to his family, community, and the country, stating his level of service is “reaching a new height.” He and his daughter also plan to attend Trump’s inauguration in January.
