Universal Studios Puts $2 Million Toward Sunshine Corridor Rail Study

ORLANDO, FL – Comcast, the parent corporation of Universal Studios and Universal Orlando Resort will add $2 million in funding toward a study that could pave the way to train access to major regional hubs such as Orlando International Airport and the Orange County Convention Center.

According to a report from Orlando Business Journal reporter Ryan Lynch, he funding was announced at the Feb. 27 meeting of SunRail’s Central Florida Commuter Rail Commission.

The $6 million study has secured $2 million from the Florida Department of Transportation and $500,000 each from the city of Orlando and Seminole County. Expected to take about two years, it will provide a detailed cost estimate, guide construction phasing, and explore the operation of a transfer station between the corridor and existing SunRail stations.

With Universal’s next theme park, Epic Universe, opening this May, local officials, business owners and residents alike are anticipating heavier traffic throughout the area surrounding the convention center and International Drive.
