Land Use and Development Regulations
A Florida Senate bill would remove mandates that agricultural property owners must comply with before they are allowed to develop on their property.
Some groups oppose the measure, claiming that approvals could be green-lighted without local voters having a say at local public hearings.
Others are cautious on the measure, stating that Florida needs to develop a plan to address the pressing challenges created by rapid population growth, such as issues with infrastructure and, depletion of natural resources.
These same groups assert that if the bill passes, it will also take away power from local county commissioners who should have the final say on new growth.
Supporters of the measure say it would be a positive move for small communities that are considering expansion of their tax base.
Funding For Rural Communities
Florida State Senator Corey Simon (R) wants to create the Office of Rural Prosperity within the Department of Commerce. The role of the department would approve funding for infrastructure improvements in rural communities. Inside this legislation there is also items that calls for higher funding for smaller rural road programs and expanded access to education, commerce, and healthcare.
