The construction of the University of South Florida’s new on-campus stadium is set to progress following the university’s Board of Trustees granting final approval to the updated project plan on Tuesday.
The revised proposal outlines a total project cost of $348.5 million, an increase from the board’s initial approval in June 2023. The updated plan includes design and infrastructure enhancements to facilitate future stadium expansions, vertical additions to the Tampa General Hospital Center for Athletic Excellence, and improved locker room facilities.
University officials stated that these additional expenses will be covered by interest earnings from the $200 million in financing previously issued by the USF Financing Corporation.
USF President Rhea Law described the approval as a significant milestone in the effort to bring a “world-class stadium” to the Tampa campus. “We are excited to see construction take off on this iconic facility,” Law said in a statement, highlighting its potential to strengthen community ties and enhance the campus experience for students, alumni, and visitors.
The university also released a new rendering of the stadium’s east side. USF Vice President for Athletics Michael Kelly and USF Foundation CEO Jay Stroman, co-chairs of the stadium planning committee, announced that preparations are now underway to begin clearing the site in May.
“With our plans in place and construction preparations underway, we have officially entered the next chapter,” Kelly and Stroman said. “This moment is the result of years of vision and planning.”
The stadium is scheduled for completion in spring 2027, with USF moving into the facility during the summer. The university plans to host its first events there in fall 2027.
