Walmart announced that it is broadening its employee discount program to cover all food items, extending a perk that had previously applied only to fresh produce.
The 10% discount, which in past years was offered on all groceries only during the holiday season, will now be available year-round to all Walmart U.S. and home office employees. It will apply to dairy, frozen, dry grocery, meat, and seafood, in addition to the existing discounts on general merchandise and apparel.
The change was outlined in a company memo sent on Wednesday by Donna Morris, Walmart’s chief people officer. She noted that expanding the program had been one of the most frequent requests from employees.
“We’ve heard your feedback that these savings make a real difference for you and your families,” Morris wrote. “And we have continued to hear that you would like to see this benefit expanded.”
Kieran Shanahan, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Walmart U.S., also highlighted the update in a LinkedIn video, saying the move was shaped by employee “listening sessions.”
“We’ve made it simpler, more accessible, and something that more associates and their families can take advantage of,” Shanahan said.
The benefit is offered through the Walmart Associate Discount Card, which employees receive after 90 days on the job. The program, in place for 50 years, becomes a lifetime discount after 20 years of service.
