The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) wants Congress to pass legislation to help address the success President Trump has had the U.S. southern border
“After decades of mass illegal immigration and four years of unbridled chaos at our borders, illegal immigration was not only halted in 2025, but significant progress was made to reverse it,” said FAIR.
The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says not only was there no new illegal immigration to the United States, but an estimated 2.5 million illegal aliens left the country in 2025 – either because they were apprehended and deported or were convinced to leave on their own.
FAIR says they want to see the passage of H.R. 2 in 2026.
In 2023, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, but it didn’t go anywhere in the U.S., which was then controlled by the Democrats. FAIR believes that with the GOP now in control, the bill would almost certainly be brought to the floor for a vote.
The legislation would do this.
End catch-and-release by strengthening our ability to detain and remove illegal aliens
Reform our asylum process to deter frivolous claims and prohibit gang members, felons, and drunk drivers from benefitting from our asylum system
Prevent unaccompanied alien children surges at the border in a humanitarian way, ensuring they are processed expeditiously with family members and sent home
Significantly limit the DHS secretary’s authority to grant humanitarian parole, so that broad, category-based parole programs cannot be established to circumvent Congress
Mandate the use of E-Verify for all employers in a responsible, phased-in way.
Poll numbers show Americans support legislation that would curb illegal immigration.
Groups like FAIR want to see HR 2 passed this year before the 2026 midterm elections.
