Wilton Simpson Applauds Senate Resolution Recognizing ‘Florida Wildlife Corridor Day’

Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson today applauded the Florida Senate for adopting a Senate Resolution that recognizes February 12, 2024, as “Florida Wildlife Corridor Day,” reaffirming the importance of the Florida Wildlife Corridor and its significant environmental, cultural, economic, and tourism value as a unique natural resource.

“While dark on a map of the state of Florida at night, Florida’s Wildlife Corridor is a shining light in showcasing our natural spaces where our food and fiber are grown and our wildlife roam freely.

“As Senate President, I championed the Florida Wildlife Corridor Act – which directed the state of Florida to better protect and connect Florida’s natural areas and wildlife habitats and to preserve working agricultural lands from future development. Now, as Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture, I am committed to ensuring Florida’s important agricultural lands are protected through the acquisition of permanent agricultural land conservation easements by our Rural and Family Lands Protection Program. Agricultural lands act as crucial connectors for the Florida Wildlife Corridor and FDACS is a dedicated partner in the effort.

“I applaud Senate President Kathleen Passidomo, Senator Jason Brodeur, and the Florida Senate for recognizing today as ‘Florida Wildlife Corridor Day,’ providing an opportunity to reflect on the significant progress Florida has made to conserve critical natural ecosystems and working landscapes for the protection of wildlife while preserving Florida’s green spaces for generations to come.”
