As we welcome President Donald Trump’s new leadership and the Republican majority in Congress, we have a critical opportunity to prioritize the programs that have transformed the lives of millions of Americans. At the top of this list is a program called Medicare Advantage – a program that delivers comprehensive, high-quality, and affordable health care to seniors and people with disabilities nationwide. With the House Republican Party Retreat taking place at the Trump National Doral in Miami this week, there is no better moment for the new Administration and Congress to focus on protecting and strengthening this vital program, which serves more than half of America’s seniors.
As the President and CEO of the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, I see firsthand how critical Medicare Advantage is for Florida’s senior population. This program serves as a lifeline for patients in my community as well as for those across Florida and the country. With its affordable and coordinated approach, Medicare Advantage ensures that seniors have access to the essential benefits they need – from prescription drug coverage to vision, hearing, and dental
For the nearly 3 million Florida seniors currently enrolled in Medicare Advantage, this program provides comprehensive health coverage tailored to their unique needs. Unlike traditional fee-for-service Medicare, Medicare Advantage protects seniors from financial strain with capped out-of-pocket costs and affordable premiums. By focusing on preventive care and early interventions, the program not only ensures seniors stay healthy but also delivers cost long-term cost savings that benefit both taxpayers and the broader health care system.
With our new leadership in the White House and Congress, it’s crucial that they understand the importance of Medicare Advantage and give it the support it deserves. President Trump has consistently demonstrated a commitment to putting Americans – and their wallets – first, and protecting Medicare Advantage would be a clear step toward this goal.
The upcoming retreat at Trump National Doral presents a timely opportunity for Republican leaders to reaffirm their dedication to seniors and put their issues first. On behalf of the Florida State Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, I look forward to seeing the new Administration and Congressional leaders, including Sen. Rick Scott and other members of our delegation, work together to prioritize the health of the seniors in our communities. I hope we can build on the program’s success to ensure it remains an essential resource for current and future generations of retirees here in Florida and across the country.
