Ross Spano Praises Customs and Border Protection’s, ICE’s Efforts to Secure the Border

While he is a top target for Democrats next year, U.S. Rep. Ross Spano, R-Fla., is showing no signs of backing down on immigration.

While he is a top target for Democrats next year, U.S. Rep. Ross Spano, R-Fla., is showing no signs of backing down on immigration.

Last week, Spano joined U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Ala., on a tour of the Rio Grande Valley where they focused on border security. During the trip, Spano toured the Port of Hildago, met with the Army National Guard and was briefed by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.

Spano, who supports President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, weighed in on his trip on Monday.

“Thousands of people illegally cross the border each year, from men, women and children seeking asylum to illegal drug traffickers,” said Spano. “This influx of people has not only created a humanitarian crisis but a national security crisis.  I firmly believe that the Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection, and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement personnel are doing an outstanding job under stressful conditions. I got a firsthand look at the progress on the border wall, and while it’s not the sole solution to the illegal immigration problem, CBP and ICE officials have said that it will help tremendously in curtailing the problem.”

Several Democrats, including state Rep. Adam Hattersley, are lining up to run against Spano who is considered vulnerable as he runs for a second term.
