U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., toured Osceola Community Health Services last week and noted it will get $6.8 million from the federal government for COVID-19 vaccines.
The funds come from the $1.9 trillion stimulus package that Congress passed and President Joe Biden signed into law.
“The resources are part of the American Rescue Plan’s investments to expand access to vaccines in underserved communities,” the congressman’s office noted.
“Our Community Health Centers have been critical players in our response to COVID-19,” Soto said on Monday. “Last week, I visited Osceola Community Health Services to see how the American Rescue Plan is already helping our community defeat the coronavirus. I was happy to announce that more help is on the way so doctors and nurses can redouble their efforts to get more shots in arms and save more lives!”
“We are pleased to receive these much-needed funds that will enable us to continue to provide COVID testing and vaccines, and ongoing quality healthcare to our community,” said Osceola Community Health Services CEO Belinda Johnson-Cornett.
First elected to Congress in 2016 after serving in both chambers of the Florida Legislature, Soto has been active on technology issues during his time on Capitol Hill. He co-chairs the New Democrat Coalition’s Technology Task Force and is a co-chair of the Congressional Blockchain Caucus. He is also part of the Democratic leadership as an assistant regional whip.
Representing all of Osceola County and parts of Orange and Polk Counties, Soto sits in what is considered a secure district for Democrats.
