Ron DeSantis Holds Solid Lead Over Charlie Crist in New Poll

Gov. Ron DeSantis holds a solid lead over former Gov. Charlie Crist according to a poll released on Wednesday.

Suffolk University released a poll for USA Today of likely voters in Florida which shows DeSantis with 48 percent of those surveyed with Crist, who was elected governor in 2006 when he was a Republican, with 41 percent. Crist won the Democratic primary last month while DeSantis faced no opposition in the Republican primary.

Independent Carmen Jackie Gimenez pulls 3 percent in the poll while Libertarian Hector Ross gets 1 percent while 7 percent remain undecided or refused to answer.

A majority of those surveyed–53 percent–approve of DeSantis’ performance as governor while 45 percent disapprove.

DeSantis is seen as favorable by 52 percent while 42 percent view him unfavorably while 6 percent are undecided and 1 percent have never heard of him.

Crist is seen as favorable by 42 percent while 43 percent view him unfavorably, 10 percent are undecided about him and 6 percent have never heard of him.

Asked about how they rate Florida’s economic conditions, 7 percent view it as excellent, 30 percent see it as good, 36 percent as fair and 26 percent as fair.

The poll of 500 likely voters in Florida was taken from Sept. 15 through Sept. 18 and had a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percent.
