With immigration as one of the top issues for voters, a recent poll by CBS/YouGov showed 62% of registered voters in favor of deporting illegal aliens already living in the U.S. The poll also found that a third of Democrats and 90% of Republicans support deportation, with 38% of all respondents opposing it.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), says between October of 2023 through April of 2024, almost 2 million illegals have had “encountered” border patrol agents.
Most in the poll favor local police getting involved with deportations.
Former President Donald Trump says if he is elected, he will deport between 15 and 20 million people living illegally in the U.S. by using the local police, National Guard, and, if necessary, the armed forces.
Last month, Florida Daily reported an Axios Vibes/Harris Poll showing a growing number of Democrats (42%) and Independents (46%) were on board with deporting illegals living in the U.S.
That same poll found how voters viewed illegals as a problem here in the country.
- 21% said increased crime rates, drugs, and violence. 18% said more the cost taxpayers must subsidize.
- 17% said the risk of terrorism and national security (17%).
- 64% wrongly believe immigrants receive more in welfare and benefits than they pay in taxes.
- 56% wrongly believe illegal immigration is linked to spiking U.S. crime rates.
- 58% said they support expanding legal pathways for immigration. 46% said asylum seekers should be protected if their cases are legitimate.
- 68% said illegal immigration causes significant problems in communities, while only 27% said the same about legal immigration.
