As the GOP convention ends, speculation is growing about potential replacement candidates for President Joe Biden, who is expected to end his campaign this weekend.
PublicSquare and RedBalloon partnered up to conduct a Freedom Economy Survey of possible Democratic replacements.

Job recruiting firm RedBallon said they reached out to small businesses around the country and asked them,” If the Democrats switch to a governor as their nominee, which of these Democratic governors would you least want to be elected?
Topping that list was California Gov. Gavin Newsom with 60% opposing him. In second was Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer at 8%, followed by New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (6%), Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker at 3%, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, both at one percent.
“This wasn’t even close,” said RedBalloon Social Media Director Asher Dixon. “Gavin Newsom’s name has been brought up quite a bit as a possible replacement. But from the survey, its certain there would be a strong backlash from America’s small business community if Gavin were the nominee,” said Dixon.
Polis from Colorado has been described as a moderate on some tax policies. Some tax watch groups reference pro-business tax cuts in his tenure as Governor.
While Newsome may come across as a party favorite for Democrats and liberal groups, his economic policies didn’t win him any popularity contest among small business owners.
“California’s current regulatory and tax burden are among the worst for small business owners and the state’s rampant crime rate and multi-billion-dollar budget deficits are also signs of risk that small business owners can’t afford,” said Dixon.
