Kamala Harris For 2028?

It’s early, but which candidate do Democrats see as a possible presidential contender in 2028?

Former Vice President Kamala Harris, according to a new poll from Morning Consult.

A plurality (36%) of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents said they would back Harris if the 2028 Democratic presidential primary were today. Following Harris was former Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg with 10%.

The Morning Consult poll listed other potential candidates, but just one problem. The rest don’t break double-digits. 13% of potential primary voters are undecided. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris’s 2024 running mate, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and California Gov. Gavin Newsom only received 5% of support.

Harris’s surrogate, Billionaire Mark Cuban, got 4% along with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker at 3%. The 3 governors from Illinois, Kentucky, and Michigan, and Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota were the only other listed names to garner more than 1%.

A report from Politico said that Rahm Emanuel, a former White House chief of staff, DCCC chairman, and Chicago mayor, is considering a bid. Just 1% of potential Democratic primary voters would support him at this point, and 44% of Democratic voters said they’ve never heard of him.

Other names being mentioned to run are VT Senator Bernie Sanders.

Recent polling shows Democrats at their lowest approval, with only 27-29% of voters giving the party a thumbs up.
