United Airlines Will Require Passengers to Check In Sooner

United Airlines is changing its check-in policy for domestic flights and will implement a uniform check-in deadline for all passengers beginning June 3.

Previously, travelers with checked luggage were required to check in at least 45 minutes before departure, while those without checked bags had until 30 minutes prior. Under the new policy, all domestic travelers—regardless of whether they have luggage—must complete check-in at least 45 minutes before their flight departs.

The airline states that this updated policy aims to streamline the check-in process and align United with the practices of most other major carriers.

There are exceptions to the 45-minute rule for flights involving U.S. territories outside the continental United States. Passengers flying to or from Guam must check in at least one hour before departure. Those traveling to or from the Marshall Islands, Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands, and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands must check in at least 90 minutes in advance.

Travelers can view a complete list of check-in requirements for specific airports on United’s website.
