On Thursday, Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) honored “Hire a Veteran Day” and called on more businesses in the Sunshine State to bring veterans into their companies.

“Florida businesses can benefit from the education, leadership experience and dedication veterans have cultivated in their military service,” the governor’s office noted.

“We’re proud to celebrate Hire a Veteran Day in Florida as we continue on our mission to be the most veteran-friendly state in the nation,” said DeSantis. “I recognize the important role these brave men and women hold in our communities and will continue to encourage businesses to recruit veterans. The dedication and value they bring to Florida’s economy is vital to the success of our businesses and the diversity of our workforce.”

DEO showcased its Jobs for Veterans State Grants and efforts with local workforce development boards across Florida to move veterans into the private sector.

“In 2019, nearly 4,000 veterans gained employment after assistance by the CareerSource Florida network,” the governor’s office noted.

“Governor DeSantis and I both proudly served our country where we obtained valuable skills needed to serve Floridians,” said Ken Lawson, the executive director of DEO. “Hire a Veteran Day highlights the unique skills veterans can bring to a business. Every company can benefit from having talented, well-trained veterans on their staff.”

DEO also showcased Employ Florida Vets, an online job tool to help veterans find jobs in the Sunshine State.

“The CareerSource Florida network is honored to serve the men and women who have served our country in their transition to civilian employment,” said Michelle Dennard, the president and CEO of CareerSource Florida. “As workforce developers, we applaud Governor DeSantis for recognizing Hire a Veteran Day and the contributions veterans make to Florida’s economy through the advanced skills, teamwork and commitment they provide their employers.”
