Aldi Sells Winn-Dixie Stores Only 11 Months After Acquisition

Southeastern Grocers, which includes Winn-Dixie and Harvey’s Supermarket, is now under new ownership. According to an article in Jacksonvile Business Journal, a consortium of private investors led by CEO Anthony Hucker and C&S Wholesale Grocers purchased the company from Aldi last week, less than a full year after Aldi acquired Winn-Dixie.

Hucker expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve local communities and emphasized the company’s commitment to growth and customer satisfaction.

“Throughout this transformational journey, our commitment to thoughtful, purpose-driven growth remains strong and propels us forward with renewed momentum, Hucker said. “As we reinvest in the store fleet, we are inspired by listening loudly to the voices of our customers to elevate and revolutionize our customer experience and store offerings so that each step we take will reflect our dedication to our people and our communities.”

The consortium has acquired around 170 grocery stores in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida, including the Winn-Dixie liquor stores. The new owners now manage daily operations for these stores.

Meanwhile, approximately 220 stores still set to be converted to the Aldi format will undergo a multi-year transition expected to be completed by 2027. Aldi previously agreed to purchase around 400 locations across the Southeast in an all-cash deal.

Additionally, Winn-Dixie is securing distribution assets, with JLL announcing a $60 million financing deal for a 2 million-square-foot industrial portfolio in Hammond, Louisiana, and Jacksonville, which is fully leased to Winn-Dixie.
