President Donald Trump’s vow to use the U.S. military to quell violent unrest if necessary demonstrates once again that he cares about the well-being of all Americans, including the Hispanic Americans whose communities have burned right alongside black neighborhoods in recent days.
Night after night, liberal celebrities, journalists, Democratic politicians, and — most bafflingly — dozens of Fortune 500 executives have cheered on the rioters as they looted and burned our neighborhoods and savagely attacked the police officers working to keep us safe. All of the senseless killing, looting, and destruction was successfully carried out using peaceful protesters as cover.
To lend credence to their utterly indefensible excusal of deadly violence, some of these same people, including Democratic governors, have concocted the fantasy that the riots and looting are being organized by shadowy “white supremacists.” That is an utterly absurd conspiracy theory that even the Southern Poverty Law Center — a far-left outfit that has made hundreds of millions of dollars and built its reputation by claiming to find white supremacists hiding under every rock in America — cannot find a shred of evidence for.
Latinos who have been forced to watch helplessly as roving bands of looters attacked our businesses and communities couldn’t possibly take these fanciful claims seriously. We couldn’t possibly — as New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio did — justify what is happening with vague references to “400 years of American racism” as our own neighborhoods burned.
The people behind these riots are using violence as a means of trying to achieve their extremist political goals, laying waste to low-income minority communities while dishonoring the cause of the peaceful protesters they’re literally hiding behind. Where is the chorus of establishment voices to call out the racism that leads these people to believe they have the right to behave this way without consequences?
More importantly, where are the voices saying what should be obvious — that our communities must and will be protected; that looters and arsonists will be arrested and face serious jail time?
In the entire country, there is exactly one such voice — one voice that refuses to abandon us to the Black Lives Matter/Antifa narrative. That voice belongs to the president of the United States, who in a speech that will be remembered for decades to come, courageously stated the hard truth and called out the convenient lie.
“[O]ur nation has been gripped by professional anarchists, violent mobs, arsonists, looters, criminals, rioters, antifa, and others,” Trump said, echoing the truth that Hispanic American citizens in Chicago, Los Angeles, and other cities across the country had already experienced.
“The biggest victims of the rioting are peace-loving citizens in our poorest communities,” the president correctly pointed out. “And as their president, I will fight to keep them safe. I will fight to protect you.”
Like most Americans, a solid majority of Hispanics — 54 percent, compared to just 25 percent opposed — support calling out the National Guard to quell the violence. A significant plurality — 48 percent to 34 percent — even support using the regular U.S. military to stop the chaos.
President Trump’s commitment to protecting every American community using every resource at the federal government’s disposal is popular because it’s the right thing to do.
