Trump Moves National Security Adviser Mike Waltz to UN Position

UPDATE: Mike Waltz has been transitioned into a new role as US Diplomat to United Nations.

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, a former Florida Congressman, has been reassigned from his position by President Donald Trump. The move comes several weeks after a leak from a private Signal chat exposed sensitive discussions about potential U.S. military action against Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Waltz, a former Green Beret, acknowledged that he mistakenly added a journalist to the encrypted chat, which included high-level officials such as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.

The leak, first reported by Fox News, sparked internal debates within the White House. Some officials reportedly urged Waltz to resign voluntarily to mitigate further controversy. Although President Trump initially supported Waltz, citing the recent military operations against the Houthis as successful, he ultimately decided to reassign Waltz and other NSC members.

The Houthi incident has raised broader concerns within the administration regarding protocols for handling classified and sensitive communications, according to reports by Politico.
