Bill Olson Wins GOP Primary to Challenge Darren Soto in November

Olson now advances to take on U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., in November.

Army veteran Bill Olson won the Republican primary in Central Florida’s Congressional District 9 on Tuesday–now comes the hard part.

With 99.5 percent of votes in, Olson easily led the Republican primary field with 49 percent. Attorney Chris Wright, who serves in the National Guard, placed a distant second with 23 percent followed by businessman Jorge Castillo with 20 percent. Banker Sergio Ortiz pulled 9 percent.

Olson now advances to take on U.S. Rep. Darren Soto, D-Fla., in November. Soto will be a strong favorite in this district which is considered solidly Democratic. Write-in candidate Clay Hill is also running in November.

After serving in both chambers of the Florida Legislature, Soto was first elected to Congress in 2016.
