Brandon Tucker Opinion: Florida Landowners Association is Built on American Fundamentals

Land ownership is an intrinsic part of American society and has been for hundreds of years.‭ ‬Since our nation was born,‭ ‬it has been a critical part of our foundation.‭ ‬It was so important to our forefathers that they made sure to protect the right to private property when they created the Constitution.

Back then,‭ ‬privately owned property was considered a liquid source of wealth.‭ ‬Something that could be bought and sold and a way to obtain and build credit.‭ ‬Buying land is typically considered a good investment.‭ ‬In fact,‭ ‬President Franklin D.‭ ‬Roosevelt once said about real estate,‭ “‬Purchased with common sense,‭ ‬paid for in full,‭ ‬and managed with reasonable care,‭ ‬it is about the safest investment in the world.‭”

That motto remains true today.‭ ‬But in the state of Florida,‭ ‬this vested right is in danger and under attack.‭ ‬To prevent further erosion of this fundamental principle of our republic, it is time to protect and preserve land ownership for future generations to come.‭

That’s why I started the Florida Landowners Association (FLA).‭ ‬The idea is to empower landowners,‭ ‬throughout the state of Florida,‭ ‬to engage,‭ ‬educate and demonstrate to the public why protecting these rights is so important to not only the individual landowner but to the communities in which these lands exist.‭

I am a real estate broker with strong ties to Florida.‭ ‬I was born and raised in Okeechobee,‭ ‬a third-generation Floridian‭ ‬and have resided in Martin County for the past‭ ‬20‭ ‬years.

That’s about the same time I started a brokerage and consulting firm called the Tucker Group,‭ ‬LLC,‭ ‬which serves most of South and Central Florida with a focus on Okeechobee,‭ ‬Martin,‭ ‬St.‭ ‬Lucie,‭ ‬Western Palm Beach,‭ ‬Hendry,‭ ‬Glades,‭ ‬Highlands,‭ ‬Osceola‭ ‬and Polk Counties.‭

Private property rights are essential to economic development in our communities and paramount to the advancement of the state.‭ ‬I believe like-minded landowners need to rally together to safeguard our property rights now and forever.

Elected officials have the tough job of balancing community pushback with the demand for increasing development.‭ ‬The majority of folks understand there is a place for development and a space for preservation.‭

Landowners like myself want to work with elected officials on the appropriate development of private property for economic growth and advancement in Florida while preserving what we all love about our great state.
